Neon Abyss 2 Save File Location: Backups & Store Limits

The available PC path is a useful place to check, with an explicit caveat about when that listing was last updated.

Sources checked:

Store
The folder path is for the Steam PC install. This does not establish save paths for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation or Xbox.
Evidence date
The SteamDB save-path configuration was last modified on August 11, 2026, before version 1.0 launched. Verify it against the files on your own installation.
Cloud status
Steam's store listing and PCGamingWiki disagree about Steam Cloud support. Confirm the current client status for your account and installation.

Identify your environment

SteamDB’s indexed cloud-file record lists [Steam Library]/steamapps/common/Neon Abyss 2/SavesDir/*.sav for all operating systems. Its save-path record was last modified on August 11, 2026, before the October 8 1.0 launch, so treat SavesDir as the best documented Steam location to check rather than a guarantee for every 1.0 install. In Steam, open the game’s Manage → Browse local files, then look for SavesDir. The Steam store lists Steam Cloud, but PCGamingWiki recorded the opposite; check the game’s Steam Cloud status before relying on sync.

Where to look in a Steam installation

SteamDB’s indexed User File System entry lists this folder and file pattern:

[Steam Library]/steamapps/common/Neon Abyss 2/SavesDir/*.sav

The library path segment matters: Steam libraries can be on a different drive or in a custom folder. Open Neon Abyss 2 → Manage → Browse local files in the Steam client to reach the installation actually used on this PC. If SavesDir is present, copy the whole folder rather than selecting one .sav by guesswork. SteamDB records the save-path configuration as last modified on August 11, 2026. That predates 1.0, so this is a documented location to check, not a post-launch guarantee that every current build or migrated install uses the same files.

Make a separate backup before restoring anything

A low-risk manual backup is a copy of the full SavesDir folder to a separate location, such as another drive. Leave the live folder in place. Close the game first and let Steam finish any pending cloud activity before copying. Record when you made the copy so you can tell it apart from a newer save.

If you need to restore, preserve another copy of the current folder before replacing files. The official 1.0 notes say Steam backup and restore now handle the main save together with its matching progression data, and that corrupted saves are preserved before recovery to avoid mismatched data overwriting them. Do not mix an older main save with newer companion data or assume a single file can safely be restored by itself. The announcement does not document a manual file-by-file restoration procedure.

Check Steam Cloud instead of assuming it is active

The official Steam store page currently lists Steam Cloud as a feature. However, PCGamingWiki’s October 10, 2026 entry says Steam Cloud is disabled for this game, so the two sources conflict. Check the game’s Steam properties and the client sync status on the PC you plan to use; do not treat the store feature badge alone as proof that your latest local save has uploaded.

Steamworks explains how Cloud generally synchronizes files configured for an app around launches and exits, and notes that a user’s global or per-game settings can disable synchronization. That documentation describes Steam’s system; it does not resolve the game-specific listing conflict. Cloud sync is also separate from transferring saves between different store accounts or console platforms, which these sources do not establish.

Keep save data separate from settings

Save data can include persistent progress as well as the state needed to continue a run. Veewo’s 1.0 notes specifically describe fixes for personal saves, co-op progress, continuation data, and paired save/progression backups. Configuration settings are a different task; do not delete or replace save files while trying to reset display or controller options. See the beginner guide for the difference between a run and persistent progression.
